The festivals of St Sebastian and St Bras remain at the heart of Trancoso traditions, both bringing back the cultural roots of Trancoso which is adored by natives and tourists alike. Starting during the day and continuing through the night, singing mixed with the traditional dance forro is common place and
Quadrado is packed with happy revellers into the early hours.
The climax of the
festivals takes place late afternoon when
the colourful masts, complete with the
picture of the Saint ( St Bras or St
Sebastian ) are raised spectacularily in
front of the church where they will remain
until the following year.
Other celebrations
which take place during the year include
Iemanja ( Goddess of the sea ) on the 2nd
Feb, St Joan which takes place in June and
Christmas and New Year.
